Mud Creek

Update after tropical storm Hilary… Mud Creek remains dangerous

The pictures below demonstrate the continued unstable nature of Mud Creek. Anyone visiting the area should use extreme caution - stay on the trail and avoid the treacherous and unstable creek banks.

The rail-trail crossing stayed in this condition through the winter, spring, and most of the summer of 2023.

July 2023 Mud Creek Bridge

This shows that after snow melt, the creek changed its flow back to the “normal” channel under the bridge.

This is the creek the day after Hilary hit our area - the water is about 3 feet deep down from about 12 feet at peak flow. The maintenance crew that was cleaning up the Mud Creek diversion reported that the water level in the diversion went from 6 inches to over-the-banks in 20 minutes. The “diversion” is 30 feet wide by 8 feet deep.
